Ms. Naana Akyaa Asante is a registered nurse with over 27 years of clinical experience in women and children’s health, both in Ghana and in some of the best hospitals in New York. A breast cancer survivor, she founded Embrace Society, to replicate her success journey to becoming cancer free – which she attributes to early detection, adequate support and people advocating for and on her behalf. The vision and activities of the Embrace Society aligns with WHO’s Global Breast Cancer Initiative which hopes to save 2.5 million lives by 2040. As founder and president of Embrace, Naana champions initiatives such as the “Embrace your breast campaign” which promotes breast cancer awareness and early detection.
In addition, by initiating Ghana’s first transformative patient navigation program, more patients have been able to navigate the complex health care system to access timely care. In forming strategic partnerships and collaboration with national and international organizations that share similar objectives with Embrace, the voices and needs of those affected with breast cancer have been amplified. Naana is currently the board chairperson of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, which regulates over 167,000 nurses and midwives in the country.
She is also a former board member of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the second largest teaching hospital in Ghana. Naana received her Bachelor of Nursing Degree from Howard University, Washington D.C. Naana was among the 2018 Cohort of Women Entrepreneurship & Leadership for Africa (WELA) offered at the China Europe International Business School and 2020 Growth Africa Business Accelerator Programme.
She is also a 2023 fellow of the Vital Voices and was recently awarded the Excellence in Business Award and the Ghana and Pharma Industry Awards. Naana is passionate about educating to empower people to make health care decisions and lifestyle choices that promote their good health and well-being.
Additionally, Naana is also the founder and CEO of Isabella HealthCare Services, a medical supply company based in Accra, Ghana. With her quest for expansion, to meet customer needs faster and to contribute to the economic growth of her country, Ghana, Naana recently established Isabella Medtech Limited with the goal to manufacture medical consumables in Ghana.
